Questions about cross-country?
I did middle school cross country for three years, and the distance was either three-quarters of a mile or a mile. This year, I'm doing high school cross country for the first time. We run a 5k, which I believe is a little over three miles. I also ran the mile in track this year. What kind of times should I expect to get? I'm a 16 year old female. Still in shape from running the mile in track...but haven't run cross county in a few years. Also, does anyone have an adaptable training workout schedule for cross country? I have a little over a month before practice starts, and I want to have a reasonably good time by then. anybody?

- just start running a few miles everyday and gradually build up. maybe try getting 20miles in a week and then slowly add a few everyweek. it really depends on how hard you work to determine your time. like my freshman year i had no idea what i was doing and didnt try hard until the end of the season, my first 5k was i think 28min and i got down to 22. and now im running low 20s. but a good goal for a beginner would to break 30min. and to be on varsity you usually need to be at/under 20min. good luck and work hard!
- It really depends on your typical mile time. I also run the mile in track and mine is typically right around 5:45 which means I should run a 5k in 17-18 minutes. I am also doing cross country training this summer and I am going to run about 4-5 miles for the beginning and increase steadily. Make sure you incorporate long runs once a week and cross training such as bike riding or swimming once a week.
