Considering the Marine Reserves, Army Reserves or Navy Reserves?
I was in Cross Country in High School. My fastest 3-mile is 19:30 though my average is probably in the upper 20s. I am in relativeley good shape all around. I go running every day for several miles and then lift some dumbells a little. I eat pretty nutritious. To be honest though I am not a big guy, more on the skinny side, so I am slightly weak. Could I have a chance at the Marine Reserves? Or should I just try out Army Reserves? Or Navy Reserves? And how could I fit the training(basic and advanced) in with my college schedule since I'm in college? Any misc info you have would be useful as well. And how many years is the commitment for each branch? Thanks.

- First advise is to talk to a recruiter. He will be able to answer your questions. As far as training, this may have changed, but when I went into the Army, I joined under the "split option training program." Granted, I was in High School, but in essence, what it did was allowed me to go to Basic one summer, then AIT the next. Again, your recruiter would have more information on this. The commitment for all services is 8 years. You will be given the option of serving 2, 4 or 6 years active reserve, with the remainder on IRR. While on IRR status, you are still subject to active duty recall. If you want to go Marines, go Marines. Don't go Army or Navy if you feel you will get less out of them. In my opinion, however, you should choose the service based on what is best for your goals and aptitudes, not on what you feel is the "coolest." (just my opinion) One last thing. Since you are in college, I would recommend finishing college first and joining as an officer. Or, if you are joining for the money, consider ROTC. Good luck with your decision.
- no matter what you join you are going to WAR!! reserves, active, etc.. etc.. If you have a choice join the chAIR force..
- My husband joined the Marine Resv. and was in shape, but didn't run like yourself! He made it just fine! But you it is more of a head stregth that you need! HE manage to graduate honor graduate. Being in shape will help, but you have to mentally ready...which there really is no way to do so! Yes you can do school very easily. My husband signed a 6 year contract with two year non-drilling ready reserve. CHoose the marine corp! It is a bond like no other and you will learn so much!!
