Cross Training Questions

What to do to train and get in shape for cross country?

I am out of shape. I don't run a whole lot but i do run, and right now I can't run a mile under 10 minutes. I want to do cross country next year because it's my senior year in highschool and I think it would be a fun thing to do before I leave. Does anyone have any suggestions and tips as to what I should do and how I begin getting in shape and training for cross country next year? I have the whole summer to work with! And does what you eat make a big difference?

  1. do spinning classes at a gym!!
  2. eat rite, streh everyday, n run more
  3. Well what you eat makes a diff if you have a fast metabolism or not. Stretch for fifteen minutes each day. Around your neighborhood, start by running a lap. Then the next day, run two, keep adding a lap each day until you can see the outline of calf muscle. Then work on speed. You can also swim 50 laps each day back and forth in a swimming pool. That also works.
  4. Over the summer you really just need to slowly build up your endurance. Begin by running every other day or every two days, depending on how you feel. Start by running for 15 or 20 minutes and slowly increase. Keep track of how much you're running weekly and try to increase your weekly mileage. By the beginning of xc team workouts, if you can run 7 or 8 miles, easy of course, you will be on your way. Once xc actually begins, your coach will probably have you do more speed work. Eating honestly isn't extremely important when your longest race is a 5k. Just try and eat a balanced diet that is higher in carbs and lower in fat. I would suggest you cut out sodas.
