Cross Training Questions

blisters on the bottom of my feet from running?

i have just switched over from track to cross country training. The shoes i have are too wide and my foot slips some when i run. This along with cross country terrain is forming blisters on the ball of my feet. I am getting new shoes that fit better but they had to order my size and it will be a couple of weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions what i should do in the mean time besides not running. I am already using the band aid blister block. Also is doubling up on socks a good or bad idea?

  1. Definitely take care of your feet. Band-aids and neosporin. You solved your own problem by getting shoes that fit. I wouldn't necissarily double up on socks, but wear thick socks if it makes you comfortable. However, many cross runners wear no socks at all, especially at the collegiate level. Your feet become calloused and you get used to it. I always wore thin socks in my trainers, but wore no socks in my spikes.
  2. OOh thats sounds bad! but what helped me was that from some chemists or sports shops you can get blister pads which you put on the sole of your foot and it works really well, it helped me!
  3. Vaseline before every run. Double socks might cause you to get black toe unless the toe box is good and roomy. I was plagued with blisters for a couple years and used vaseline LOTS. Then the blisters stopped and I stopped using the Vaseline. Probably is just a time period after which you;ll be okay.
  4. To keep overal fitness; go cycling or even swimming. But don't just do nothing- it's SO easy to lose fitness! Doubling on socks might be a bad idea. What kind of socks do you use? Cotton? If so, this is adding on to your blister problem. Try out some dri-fit socks. They are light-weight, and they wick away moisture, keeping your feet dry. This added with vasoline protection is a big plus. Blisters aren't neccessarily a bad thing; they turn into callusus which make your feet literally harder/stronger. Good luck!
  5. maybe not run as much. it is mega important to take good care of your feet, bcuz it takes them a long time to heal. make sure you keep them clean. put bandages and cushion on the blisters. and wear comfortable thick socks, yes doubling is okay too.
