Superman School: Opinions and Guidance?
"Superman School" is the nickname for the USAF's Combat Controller training pipeline. As a US Air Force officer candidate, I am interested in becoming a Special Tactics Officer (the officer equivalent of a combat controller). I know it is a very difficult path; with two years of training and an 80% attrition rate. I am looking for some insight and insider advice from former Air Force special operators as to what exactly the job entails, (duties and such), what the training is like, what exact schools are involved, and what general life is like as a STO or combat controller. I would not go for it initially, but potentially cross-train into it a few years into my air force career, from intel perhaps. How hard is this to do and how often is it done? What kind of personality and body-types have you found, as special operations veterans, are best for this type of AFSC beside the required incredibly-fit, motivated, and well-driven individual?

- Sounds to me like you're a relatively intelligent person. I should hope you are if your claim to be an Air Force officer candidate is true. Granted, I've been retired a couple years, but I'd hope they wouldn't let idiots in nowadays. First, you're looking for answers in the wrong place. You should be talking to recruiters or requesting information from the Air Force website. Find a site that is giving you some general information of what it is you are looking for and look for a Contacts link. There's almost always one there somewhere. Talk to people from the source. The odds of finding a person with that kind of info on here is extraordinarily unlikely. Good luck in your new career. Aim high!
- Ive got goose bumps....Good choice......The school is the hardest thing you can imagine, times ten. There is no specific body type, as the training will make the body type you need. To tell you about the school would be cheating! But I will tell you, make sure you can swim and hold your breath. Try this link, talk to a recruiter, brilliant choice. Aim High
- Sounds like you already have a plan. The only person preventing you from achieving your goal is... you!
