Cross Training Questions

Trying to gain lean muscle by boxing, what type of equiptment should I get?

I am a 6'5" 16 year old. I weigh about 170lbs, my body fat is around 10% with the rest being lean muscle. I have never boxed before and want to try it out. I am already fit (I play soccer and tennis, and run in cross country) but I would like to get stronger, faster, and have more explosive power. How heavy of a heavy bag should I get, what shoud it be filled with, what should it be made out of, and what brands are reliable. I would also like to know what type of gloves to get, how much they should weigh, if I need any wrapping for my hands, what brands are good, and if I need to protect my feet at all (I might feel like kicking the bag sometimes). As many details as possible would be appreciated and any tips for proper training would be helpful. Thank you for reading.

  1. Concentrate on getting into a gym that has other boxers, and get a good sparring partner. Since you are 16 you will gain weight. If you are sparring with a good fighter, you will also gain knowledge/skill. No equipment can make you as good a fighter as another good fighter will. By the way, you sound alot like me, I was 6'5" at 16 and I also weighed 170. I am now 250.
