Summer Training.?
After a mediocre track season in which I only have PR'd once, I want to be ready for cross country season and prove to my coach that I really want to be in this sport and deserve to be the top runner. After track ends Im taking two weeks off from running then im starting my training again. I'll be running about 6 miles a day increasing the mileage through out the summer and also doing fartleks, tempo runs, stairs and speed workouts. I want to break 18 before the season starts. My question is Is this too much? I plan on cross training days that im sore or its really hot and ill be taking a day off a week. and the next is What kind of runners diets are there? I think nutriton is what held me back during track season. I started drinking more water and less soda and tried to cut out junk food but it wasnt enough. What can i do?

- you have a pretty good plan pick a day to have off and a day to run a long distance then have days for tempo, speed work, fartleks, and stretching and warm ups every day. start a training log if you feel like something isn't working you will know what to change. also if it is too much you can just tone it down a little make sure your work doesn't make it so that you don't end up liking running after all you are trying to have fun hope this helps
- good job and good plan. You will know if you are running too much your body will tell you, listen to it. You absolutely need to start drinking more water and almost no soda/coffee Eat plenty of carbs and protein. Drink water even when you are not thirsty but summer is when you train your hardest so make sure to run a lot like you are talking about.
