My feet fall asleep while I'm on the elliptical...?
New Year - new hobby. I'm determined to become a Gym-Rat. I love cardio and perfer it to weight training, but whenever I'm on the elliptical machine my feet fall asleep and I get pins and needles...why? My shoes fit correctly and they are for cross training. What should I do?

- WOW! that is unusual...... I would suggest switching to another machine, maybe a treadmill
- Mine do the same thing and so do my friend's feet
- Mine do that too!!! I asked a friend of mine and he felt the same way. It is something with the circulation and all the blooding pumping.
- This happens to me to when I use the elliptical. I haven't a clue why, other than it could simply be poor circulation. Also, if you think about it, if you go running, each foot is off the ground for a half-second or what not every step...so you are not putting pressure on them at all times. Try shifting your feet on the pedals when it begins, or lifting them off the pedal one at a time to relieve the pressure every once and a while. Hope these tips help!
- It's just bad circulation. When you sit on the floor too long your legs "fall asleep" and it's because blood isn't getting to them. Same deal. Like college_gal_83 said, shifting your feet might help. Standing on your tippy toes and then on your heels. Shift the weight around. I've got bad circulation in my feet because I'm overweight (ha!) and I have undeveloped growth plates in my heels.
- my feet used to. that means that you're wearing the wrong sneakers. cross trainers aren't good for the eliptical. try running shoes.
- that is actually very common on ellipticals and stairmasters, because you tend to lock your feet to prevent yourself from slipping. It happens to me all the time. Try slightly shifting your feet during your workout.. Even better, stand on your toes as you move for about a minute or so every 10 minutes. Make sure to hold the handles so that you don't fly off the machine. This will prevent your feet from falling asleep, and it has the added benefit of making your quads work harder.
