  1. Better to wait till you are transferred to your next base before requesting for crosstrains. Other wise you may be stuck there until he has finished his training .
  2. Well usually you can cross train for two reasons. As part of your reenlistment. Or if you are in an over manned AFSC and cross training into an under manned AFSC. The exception is, anyone can cross train into Para Rescue, CCT or SERE after 24 months because those jobs are so hard to fill. You go to Tech School to retrain on a TDY. Im not sure how it would work, if you are deros'ing from overseas. They cannot very well send you to your next base, since they don't know, if he will pass or fail Tech School. So they wouldn't know yet, what AFSC he would be transfered as. They might go ahead and send you to your next assignment, based on his old afsc, then tdy him to Tech School for cross training. Or they might just move the family to Tech School, and then the follow on assignment. The best person to ask, is the Wing Careeer councilor. Since he is the one, who is handling the cross training.
