Whenever I do cross country training I go the brightest red. It looks shocking and is highly embarassing.?
Any ideas on why I go so red (despite being very pasty) and anything I can do to prevent it happening?

- that is normal because there are types of person that they just went on red if the weather is sunny or hot.... for more information please contact your doctor
- I have the same problem! I don't think there's anything you can do about it. I've just learned to deal with it.
- when we do cross country at school the exact same thing happens, some people go bright red (inc me) and its highly embarrassing! i think its to do with your level of fitness, perhaps if we were fitter we would not go that colour? i know that drinking a lot of water (whilst running, before running and after running) helps a lot because it cools your body down and re-hydrates it (the reason why you go pasty)! you can also get these sprays that re-moisten your mouth, that help your body breathe easier therefore, you go less red and less out of breathe! i don't know if your allowed them in serious races tho! but good luck! x
- Me too. And I blush furiously when people draw any sort of attention to me! And I go red in hot weather and when I exercise. It looks shocking. Oh and if I cry - man, hideous! Basically your skin is pale and your blood vessels are close to the surface. Exercise causes the blood vessels to dilate (get bigger) and you look redder. I hate it too - sometimes I look purple! I don't think you can prevent it. There are treatments, but I think they are pretty extreme (like interrupting certain nerves to the facial area). You could try talking to your doctor but the other thing is just accept that it's you, and how your body works. I'm sure it bothers you more than others notice - and at least they can see how hard you're working! Cross country is hard work, be proud of yourself :) If you worry too much you'll stress and make yourself redder! Oh, and after the training drink some cold water and put cold compresses on your face (wet face cloth). Try and get near a fan or airconditioning if you can.
