Cross Training Questions

becoming a mechanic after the air force or cross-training into ?

I really don't have experience with repairing cars or any mechanic work, but I love mechanical things and I do have some experience repairing my own vehicle and I am very good with my hands. I can basically take anything apart and put it back together.I have a good memory. the thing is I don't know where to start. I want to join the air force and get a degree in there and learn a lot about life, get free education, but I am joining with a minimal asvab score that makes me qualified to join. I am 20 and I only qualify for admin jobs. Is getting a admin degree and going to school after 4 years in the service a good route and start learning how to be a mechanic at age 24. I just have this thought in my head that mechanics begin at an early age such as 18-20 and I feel like 24 is late to start that type of training in Aviation or auto mechanic work. I should have spent time training when I was younger but I got caught up in trouble and having too much fun.now I am looking forward. ?

  1. Don't know where you live, but you can probably get into a trade school for aircraft or auto mechanics either one. You can also ask to re-take the test for the Air Force mechanics school. Talk to a recruiter and stay out of Iraq!
  2. Figure your gonna work untill your in your 60's, So you think being 24 is to old to start, when you have the next 40 years in front of you ? That makes no sense at all. It doesn't matter what age you are, If you scored that low on the asvab, then wait and retest after 30 days, you might wanna study before the second test. There are practice asvab test online and you can by proactice test at most book stores.
