is my pedometer right?
I bought a pedometer and wore it to the gym. My session included 13km run at 14kmph, 10minutes rowing machine, then 5minutes cross trainer, and 10minutes weight! on return home I checked the readings and it said I had done over 1100 steps but to my disappointment only burnt 190kcal is that right ?as the machines gave a much higher reading!

- due to the fact the pedometer measures in steps and goes by "bumps" it interprerates as a step using it on a rowing machine would provide false figures i would assume, this may have contributed heavily to the seemingly out of character readings encountered. for example during rowing you may have "bumped" it 5 times per stroke due to the nature of the exercise. the pedometer and machines only guestimate the work done and therefore the calories burnt so both may be off with each other, try taking the average
- The calories burned on pedometers and exercise equipment is an average based upon several factors. Your pedometer and the rower could just be using different scales. Also, most pedometer only counts movements that seem like steps and higher-end models actually have accelerometers in them that only count a step when you're moving forward. That means that all your time on the cross trainer and weight benches probably didn't get counted. Your time on the rower may not have counted, either...
