Cross Training Questions

How to get more toned?

I'm an 18 year old girl, 5'7"m and i weigh 119lbs. I joined the gym two months ago to lose a bit of excess weight and become more toned i.e. get some definition (but not full-blown abs) i dont want to be too muscular. But it's not helping! I do weights, treadmill, bikes, stair machine, cross trainer etc. If i start doing heaps of sit-ups and push-ups will i get more toned? I'm stuck in a bit of a rut at the moment, just looking for some advice.

  1. The best muscle definition I've seen in myself after doing years of weight training is yoga. It really helps tone all over...
  2. i would think so, what do the trainers at the gym recommend?
  3. I find the best way to tone up is Pilates. You are doing great by incorporating strength training and cardio into your workout, but it wouldn't hurt to start Pilates as well. Good luck!
  4. Toning really requires consistent weight/strength work. Do a routine 3 days/week - if you can do a class w. weights -try for 30 mins 3 days/week Push ups are a great chest, back and triceps toner - start doing them on your knees and then work towards being able to do them on your toes Sit ups do work for your abs - and these you can do every day Lunges are good for toning your legs Then you can do simple bicep curls and side and front raises with light weights at first for biceps (obviously!) and shoulders Go to a site like Shape magazine for some toning exercise programs And you are NOT overweight at all for your height. Good luck!
  5. want to become toned the fun way?... enroll in a dance class. :D
