I am nearly 50 and have knee problems, I want to lose 10 kgs fast, along with a decent diet which sort of excercise machine would be best for me? I need some thing that wont worry my knees to much and something to help burn fat / calories especially around my waist. I intend to hire a machine possibly a stepper or cross trainer..can any one guild me on this

  1. i'd actually go for a muscle bulding machine, one of those weight multi trainer things. and for the aerobics, i'd go swimming, i know it's sometimes embarrassing, but it's thebest, no impact on the bones and it burns the calories.
  2. Go to a gym and try before you buy! Generally elliptical type machines are better than steppers for older joints. But there are some machines like the Nordic Trac I never could used to using!
  3. an exercise bike is not so hard on the knees compared to a treadmill and by stepper if you mean stairclimber would probably be the worst for your knees, a rowing machine works very well you use mostly upper body to pull the handle and the knees and legs only a little just to propel yourself, i used to have knee problems, but there is an iundoor aquatic center close to my house, i got a memebership and swam a whole bunch until it recovered and now i love swimming :), and the lightest on your joints.
  4. Elsie, I'd try an elltical machine. It's what I bought when I had a running knee injury and it as worked as a great cross-training piece of equipment. Use the buying tips page below to help you narrow down your choice. Good luck! - Mike
