- IF THEY DONT HAVE TO BE STEEL TOED SHOES THEN TRY NURSES SHOES I AM TOLD THEY ARE BEST WHEN YOU ARE ON YOUR FEET A LOT.
- Walking shoes or cross trainers are the best. A running shoe just doesn't have the support you need. I use New Balance. I would also try the gel insoles or standing on a rubbermat if possible. The rubber mat really works great if it is possible where you work
- I've been having foot problems lately, but when I wear my new shoes, I can go for hours without foot problems. The key for me is support. These shoes are so tight that I need a shoe-horn to get them on -- but once they are on, they are very comfortable and I don't feel the tightness at all. They have reasonable arch support, but I think the key is the side support the shoes provide. BTW, chilling seems to do a great job of warding off foot pain for me. (I've got plantar fasciitis.) After being on my feet for awhile, I try to soak my feet in cold water with ice added. (Not tons of ice, but enough to make me go Yikes! at first.) You could bring a soda bottle filled with water and frozen to work, and roll your feet on it during breaks. Also, watching your posture and changing your position may help. There are some yoga moves you can do that no one will ever notice. Good luck.
- I have been a restaurant manager for a few years and am constantly on my feet. The best shoes I have found are ShoesForCrews. Some restaurants offer them at the location through a payroll deduction. They are slip resistant and come in a variety of styles from dress to casual to clogs. Since they are made for the harsh environment of restaurants (grease, freezers, mopping, chemicals), they are durable. I've had the same pair for three years and look a little worn but no tearing or damage to the inside. Some stores sell their own brands (Wal-Mart, Payless, etc.) but they fail in comparison. Even the cheap shoes that ShoesForCrews offers is still better than anything else I've tried. I sound like a paid endorsement, but they are just that great.
- When I started mt first job waiting tables, in 1984, I went to a uniform shop and bought a black pair of nurses shoes. They lasted the whole time I worked at that place, almost 6 years and my feet NEVER hurt. At the time they were pricey, about $55.00; But worth it. Also because they were good quality and leather, I never had a problem with sweaty, stinkin' feet like my co-workers.
- Ooooooh! I know that pain all too well! First, the feet. Then the legs. After lunch, you're whole back goes out! I used to be a bookseller so was always on my feet and lifting stacks of heavy hardcovers! I found the perfect pair of shoes by chance! They are from a company called Merrell. The shoe comes in different styles so if you are not allowed to wear sneakers, as was my dilemma, you could get a pair in leather. They will run around $60 - $100 though I've seen them in DSW for less. They are well worth the price though as they feel like sneakers! If you are allowed to wear sneakers, I suggest New Balance. They are my favorite! I walk a lot so I am very choosy about footwear and these have never failed! Always comfortable and lightweight. My favorite style are the 574's because they come in a variety of colors. Hope this was helpful and good luck!
- People will advise you to wear 'flat' shoes but actually your feet will hurt more if you choose really flat ones. Whatever you decide on, make it possible its around 1 inch on soles and not synthetic. Leather would be a good choice.
