non infantry cross training?
i've been hearing that all marines and soldiers are riflemen. My question is how much actual infantry training does non infantry people actualy do.In my unit we traine constantly,we would spend at least 2 weeks a month in the field practicing our craft.I know that non infantry in soi have there 2 weeks of grunt training but after that how much do you actually train and do you think you could function in a actual line company

- Marines and soldiers are completely different things. Every Marine is a rifleman, every soldier has most likely at some point laid eyes on a rifle. For pogs (personnel other than grunts) in the Marine Corps it completely depends on what unit they are with. 1st Intel BN for example trains harder during the few short months they don't spend in Iraq than some infantry units, whereas the kids that work at like GPAC (admin) never break a sweat unless it's from cleaning or some other menial labor. Keep in mind though that even those Marines who work in admin and whatnot do have a basis in boot camp and MCT so they are infinitely more prepared to do their part in a line company than your average soldier or anyone who is not a Marine. Of course they aren't going to be as proficient as a full time grunt though.
- Well, for the Army, non Infantry soldiers get very little infantry style training beyond common tasks (CTT). Outside of the combat arms MOS's soldiers primarily do their own MOS work, personnel, or computers, or finance, or whatever.
