Cross Training Questions

Can using a cross trainer be as beneficial as running?

I sometimes have pretty busy days and I'm not always able to go running in the morning or evening (because it's getting dark earlier and my mum worries about safety) so I was wondering if the days I cannot run can I use my cross trainer? Is it as beneficial as running or will I have to work harder on the cross trainer to reap the same benefits of running?

  1. It is good to do cross training. It gives your legs and body a rest from the pounding of running. I am not sure what type of equipment you are calling your cross trainer. If it is a stationary bike that is good. If it is a type of treadmill then that will work also. You will not get the same benefit from a cross training session as you will from running but since you are only doing it 1 or 2 days per week it is a good recovery day.
