Cross Training Questions

Cross-trainer or Treadmill?

i was looking to invest in either a cross-trainer or treadmill for my personal gym.. as far as weight-loss/muscle toning effects are concerned can anyone help me out in figuring out which is more affective?

  1. I would invest in a cross trainer as you are also training the upper body and burning more calories as a result. In addition you are working these upper body muscles which will help tone them.
  2. total Gym
  3. yes, a cross-trainer is. with both of them you can get low-impact cardio, so they're both good in that sense, but with a cross-trainer, more muscles have to be used and used more effectively in order ot keep it going (so it does more good to more muscles) with a treadmill, your body can fatigue and you can still be "riding" it. you've seen people "riding" a treadmill rather than walking or running on one, right? their toes are dragging, their sneakers might even squeak on it, their legs are going back onlly because their feet are by gravity sticking to the propelled conveyor. on the other hand, with a cross-trainer, if you aren't actually moving it, there's no way you can continue to be propelled. you do 100% of the work on one of them. you won't be able to last 30 minutes on one right away like you probably would on a treadmill, but 10 minutes on one of those hits more muscles and more effectively than 30 minutes of treadmill. i've done both and definitely get more out of the crosstrainer. treadmills make great warmups, but they are NOT actual running or walking. get the crosstrainer and be prepared to get a workout!!!
  4. Cross-trainer by far
