- Pilates is GREAT stomach (core) work
- You can't train a certain part of your body hoping that the body fat will reduce from that area. This is called spot training and does not work. Your body stores fat as an energy reserve and will generally store it on our stomachs and then liberally elsewhere. The cross trainer is very good for doing this but its benefits will reduce gradually the more you use it. Our bodies get used to movements and the benefit from doing a constant movement. So to help use up your excess body fat try changing the training technique on your cross trainer. Make sure you use it forwards and backwards, make sure you increase the resistance and/or increase the speed you go at. All these changes will help change the exercise enough to see more results however to really help you will need to add some more exercises to your routine like running, swimming, rowing, cycling. Your body won't be as used to these movements and so the development in your body will be that much more. As another tip the exercise you hate the most is often the one that will do the most for you. As for your stomach and upper body you can develop the muscle under the body fat and I have a few good stomach exercises on my blog for you to do. Upper body exercises there are so many and the numbers increase when you have some weights as well that I couldn't mention them all however there are some links from my blog that should help you on your quest. Good Luck
