treadmill or cross trainer?
I am looking to purchase some exercise equipment but can't decide whether to get a treadmill or a cross trainer. I've heard that treadmills give you a total body workout, but cross trainers help to tone your upper body and torso. I am looking to lose weight and tone my arms and stomach area, so does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

- Go running instead of getting a tread mill and buy the cross trainer, they're great.
- I personally would buy a cross trainer as its more benefit than a treadmill and doesnt put so much of a strain on your heart.
- Cross trainer will give you a better workout than a treadmill, they are more versatile and you are less likely to get bored of using it as quickly.
- My girlfriend has used a crosstrainer for 1 hour a day 4/5 times a week since march and has lost 5 stone she says they are great and she looks great.Good look.
- I have a cross trainer and they're great. Treadmills are ok but you put much more strain on your ankles and and more likely to get injured, as you are if you go running for real. I dont think it'll help your stomach much, try sit ups for that. Really you dont need any equipment, you can do all the exercises you need using just your body!
- just go out jogging in place of the treadmil and then buy the cross trainer, this way you can have both xx
- i would recomend a treadmill because honestly running burns fat all over and its the best way to lose weight
- The vast majority of exercise equipment ends up either as a clothes horse or in the Attic or garage! Also although there is plenty of cheap crap machines on the market, the decent stuff really is expensive. You are not going to get a fair motorised treadmill for much less than £1,000 or a cross trainer for much less than £800. Far better to go to a gym and have access to the full range of equipment. Also if you pay monthly it is only going to cost about £30 a month, so a whole year will only cost half as much as a good machine. It is also important to be aware of the statistics, people who buy a full years gym membership in advance, attend on average 7 times in that year! Also people who take on a gym membership in January, attend only once in the month of February. Thus if you do give up it is only going to waste £30 and it you succeed, it will only cost you £360 for a years training!
- if crosstrainer here means ORBITREK,so that's it. it's much MORE better than a treadmill. because it decreases impact on weight bearing joints. and also,it's pattern of action simulates the normal body movement during actual running.
- If you get cross trainer with the motion handle bars, they tend to force you to keep your upper body moving where a on a treadmill, they stay stationary on the handles. They both are excellent when it comes to cardio. But what it it all comes down to is what you're going to stick with. You may want to go to a gym first and work with them for a while to see which one you like more. If you are considering what kind of treadmill or a cross trainer to get, I recommend going to http://whenrunninginplace.com. They take all the reviews from the different online reviewers and come up with an average score/rating for the different cross trainers and treadmills. You can also see side by side comparisons for all the different models. You should check it out if you are looking for a treadmill or a cross trainer. Personally for me, I would choose the cross trainer. Cross trainers tend to have a lower impact rate then treadmills which prevents my knees from hurting. And for me, Cross Trainers seem to be more fun and interesting. Part of getting in shape is sticking with it. So your workout has to be as fun as it can be. For me, treadmills are boring and I cant motivate myself to stick with it. I always hit the cross trainer when I go to the gym though. I can get a good full body workout and my body isn't hurting after.
