what is the best workout to train/and pracitice for crosscountry?

i need good workout tips to train for my cross-country season and how to loosewieght and stay in shape till the season starts and all through it! please help! any advice ? tips ? secrets? ..and if you have any mean comments please keep them to your self thanks.

  1. An elliptical machine is basically the same motion as cross country skiing. I believe most gyms have them.
  2. Running, obviously. You should, as any other serious athlete would, be applying the concept of specificity of training, meaning that the bulk of your training should be specific to your sport, i.e. swimmers should swim, runners should run, and Baseball players should bat, pitch, catch to get in shape/improve.
