Cross Training Questions

Will cross-country adversely affect my weight-training plans?

I am trying to build mass and strength for my final basketball season, I have about a month, but I also need cross-country because I have been grossly out of shape. Will the two needs collide negatively? Has anyone been in this predicament? Or am I over-worrying? btw my metabolism is whopping fast, which is why I am worried that running will just burn off all the proteins I take. thanks in advance to anyone who answers

  1. when I was in cross country I could eat a whole large pizza by myself and be ready to eat again in a couple of hours. Yes running will increase the speed at which you burn the calories that you put in. You need to keep an eye out on your calorie intake. Figure out how many calories you're buring depending on the miles you run. (at our peak we used to run 15 miles a day). All you need to do is take some protien--watch this very carefully as soon as you start running less decrease protien immediatley because it will turn in to fast almost instantly if you don't use it! Eat starches becuase unlike other programs "running" requires you to have some carbs in your diet. The carbs will help your body have fuel to burn and not start breaking down your muscle for energy.---the muscles will start to be broken down if you aren't taking enough starches and protien. so in a way yes they are working against each other but in a sense atleast you'll have minimal body fat and all lean muscle if you manage yourself right! Good luck
  2. doing both will only make you better; the most important thing is to be in shape, this wont affect bulk, it will just burn fat; i wouldn't say you are over worrying, but you don't need to worry
  3. you are good. keep it up
