How do i go from walking to running? Training for Cross Country.?
I want to go from walking to running but i got to some problems When i set off in a jog, i can hold it for maybe 2 min's before i have to slow down and catch my breath again. I dont have any pains (legs or anything) just cant keep my endurance up. How can i keep my pace over long distances (3 miles +)?

- Just run until you need to walk and then walk until you feel like running again. Cover the entire distance and do it at least 3 times each week and 5 times if you can. If you are consistent about your exercise you will be able to run the entire distance in a month or so. Run easy, slow enough so you can talk while you run. Take in enough air, take deep full breaths, don't gasp or pant and don't worry about breathing in your nose and out your mouth just breath. Relax don't be tense or tight in your arms or shoulders. Warm up and stretch before and cool down and stretch after running. Drink plenty of water. You will be fine.
- If you are not in a hurry with your training, I would suggest simply not even trying to run quite yet. Simply increase your walking pace and distance, running / jogging will come naturally with time. Endurance is not something that one can get overnight, but good diet and regular exercise can help. It may also help to work on your core strength in the gym. Overall body wellness just very important in successful training - part of cross training for any race really.
- ok its not going to happen all at once. you need to get out there very day if u need to jog then walk and jog than wak. thats a training form if u didnt know thet by the frence we do taht in my practeses. also take in more air then u let out. and make sure u have solid shoes to run in. message me if u have any ?s. hope i helped!
- 2 min. is fine when starting. Dont push it. Go for 4 min, then 5 or 6, you will hit the 30 minute mark in a month or 2 if you dont overdo it and lose motivation
- running then walking and running and walking is not a good way to train...you are probably going to fast..just find a nice slow pace that you can keep..its better to run slower and not walk then to try and run faster and walk...consistency in training means consistency in racing..also try to think about other things while running..it will keep your mind off of the pain..xc is a tough sport..and there is alot of pain involved..but the only way to be successful is to fight through the pain..and run hard..just start out easy and work your way up..good luck
