Cross Training Questions

How can i get ready for my first cross country high school team, training, stretching, dieting, ect.?

This is the first Cross country team that i have ever been on. I have always been good at running long distances, but I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips, lingo, stretching, diets, training, ect. Also is there any way that i can prepare mentally for a meet?

  1. Try runnersworld.com- loads of useful info and advice. Break a leg!
  2. make sure you show up to practice in a decent pair of running shows. This doesn't mean you have to spend $100 bucks. Just don't show up in cross trainers or basketball shoes (that's what I did my freshmen year of HS). A good running shoe website where you research shoes and/or buy them is www.roadrunnersports.com See the description of waht kind of foot type you have (flat arch, medium arch, high arch) and your body type (small, medium large). Check out this website www.coolrunning.com It will have some running tips for you and some sample training programs for all levels of running. Make sure you stretch well, especially after running when your muscles are loose and NEVER ignore pain. If your muscles ache really after training or something hurts like shin pain, take it easy and don't push too hard. Don't increase your mileage too fast. Come into the season in decent shape but don't worry about being a superstar on day 1. The workouts you do with your team will push you to the next level.
  3. go jogging outside ur house for 30 minutes every day, also lift a bit too. -bonus- try going full out on ur last minute of ur jog, it will help a lot
