Cross Training Questions

Typical High School Cross Country Training Schedule?

How many miles does a runner on a high school cross country team typically run daily? Weekly? Is there a sample schedule someone could give me?

  1. This schedule is like an average week during the racing season. This includes 2 races which is more common than one but in the event that there is one or none a long run 6-8 is done. This schedule should not be used every week it is only appropriate in the middle of the season. There is longer runs in the beginning and an emphasis on speed at the end. There are different schedules for runners based on ability. Sunday-light on your own jog 1-3 miles Monday- Meet 1 mile warm up, 5K Race, 2 Mile cooldown Tuesday- 4-5 Mile Moderate run Wednesday- Hard workout 4*1 mile in beginning of season to 12*400 at end of season Thursday- 4-5 mile moderate run Friday- as few as 1 or as much as 5 depending on meet Saturday- Meet 1 mile warm up, 5K Race, 2 Mile cooldown So I guess the average Miles per week is 30-40 but can be as high as 45 and as low as 15. I answered your question but DO NOT TRY TO FOLLOW A SCHEDULE LIKE THIS NOW. If you are doing track I would follow it up with this schedule for summer training: http://www.american-trackandfield.com/features/summertraining2001list.html If you are not doing track follow the schedule except you may want to repeat weeks to lengthen schedule. Please state what you are doing track, cross country or both, and your goals. I would be glad to help you if you could provide additional details to your question or email me.
  2. i have a lot of friendson xc but havnt run it myself, but i believe they ran about 5 miles (hard) to 10-12miles (easier) a day. my friend who runs college xc and was one fo the best HS runners in MD last year would run from 10-20 miles a day in summer (but thats an extremely good runner).
