Cross-country training?
This is going to be my first year of doing cross-country. I want to know what things should I do to train...How many miles a day should I run? There's no hills around me so should I just run on the track? I've been running 3 miles a day. Do I run consecutive miles or rest between?

- don't stop suring your run that is the worst thing you can do you are trying to build endurance you need to run atleast 3x a week i recomend 4x don't just run 3 miles do 2,3,4,5 something different every run.
- run six days a week and leave one day off for the body to recouperate... do both long slow distance and speed work on the track..... try running hard for two telephone pole lengths then jog near walking for two more pole lengths to recover b4 doing it again.... drop me a line if you want to chat more.... criss
- Running 3 miles is good but you need to build some endurance. Try running 4 to 5 miles every other day. Also do some strength training. If you want to work on your “kick” then do 300 meters and sprint the last 100 meters, do that 4 times. Have fun. And remember cross country is 90% mind and 10 body.
- run
- go sky diving
- if you run 3 miles everyday you proley run around 21 miles in a week. thats not bad starting off. go to http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/smartcoach/1,7148,s6-238-277-278-0-0-0-0,00.html?starf=&lrdy=0&slen=16&trainstart=ds1184597170248&startf=checkforward&hour=0&mins=0&secs=0&rlen=fivk&rdst=fivk&mpwe=11&diff=mod and type in 5-k for the race and enter in how many weeks you have b4 xc starts for you (before actualy practices start) and add 2 weeks. this is because it will taper down ur workouts in the last 2 weeks. you dont want to do that so jus add 2 weeks to the amount of time you have left before xc practices start.
- You should up your milage a little bit. You will be racing a 5k, which is about 3 miles. So you need to be used to running a little bit more then that. Try uppping it to 4, then 5 miles per run. Also, try to get one longer run in per week. Try to run your miles consectuively. That is the best way to do it. You should only do the resting if you are doing an interval workout. You don't have to do the running on a track, you can run through parks, nieghborhoods, whatever is near you. Good luck.
