Cross Training Workouts Knowledge Base

base training for cross country... what type of workouts should I do??? Track just ended and I have a month before summer cross country camp starts. I ended up with a 6:04 mile and I desperatley want to break 6... but thats a different story. What sort of workouts should I do before cross country camp? Should I mostly just go on long runs to build endurance? btw I'm entering hs next year so hs cross country will be a totally new experience for me. What sort of times do girls get in races? I ran a 5k a few weeks ago and got 22:07... how does that compare with times other highschoolers get? How much can I expect to improve? Thanks! 2-3 miles is too easy... lol in the winter I ran more like 3-6 miles training for the mile, peaking at 6.43.
cross training with elliptical as good as running? I have a stress fracture and can't run. I do the cross training mode on the machine is it close to the same workout as running? will doing the elliptical help me not lose fitness? thanks!
Can I do weight cross training followed by long distance running on the same day? I have a cross training program that involves some weight. But mostly push-ups, pull-ups, and curls (bicep, tricep) and shoulder presses. Can I perform these cross-training weight workout (about an hour long) then do a distance run (starting at 1 mile, then increasing by .5 miles a week until I'm doing 4-5 miles). If you care, the cross training weight workouts are the P90X workouts (I love them). My main reason to do this is to prepare for Cross Country while KEEPING (NOT BUILDING) my muscles. Thanks.
Diet and workouts for preparing for a marathon? I am preparing for a marathon. I do not have a time line yet and am working on the training plan. I am in the early stages of preparing. I currently run a 5k in about 18 minutes. Ready to move on to something more intense. Any advice for diet, foods, workouts, and cross training?
What are good base training for cross country for a large group? I'm doing my Capstone (it's like a senior project, but not for seniors), and I am planning, and coaching, an off-season workout program for the cross country team. Our team is not very motivated, and it will be a large group. What are some workouts that will help get them in shape, as well as keep them engaged and motivated?
Is cross country good training for track? I have been running track for two years now, and I am a sprinter/jumper. I was thinking of joining the school's cross country team in order to run when there is no track (fall). Would this be good training for track? Or should I just do my own workouts to prepare (I run winter, spring, and summer track).
Cross country season is getting closer, please help? I have a 5k race that is in about 9 weeks. I am a freshman in high school. My cross country team is performing a workout program over the summer that helps create a good base for next season. I don't want to follow this program as this will just get me the same results as last season. Their workout program focuses more on mileage than anything else. I have a program that helps better your 5k time by including track intervals on Tues., tempo runs on Thurs., and long runs on Saturday. The rest of the week I have to perform a cross training workout to recover from the physical stress of the key run workouts. It is about 9 weeks long, enough time to prepare for my 5k race. I also want to perform plyometrics and speed drills twice a week to help me gain some speed in general, because I am a 400m and 800m runner during track. Can I do all this and see benefits for my race in 9 weeks? What day of the week should I perform my speed and plyometrics? Also, can I add hill repeats on my easy days? All this is for cross country. The speed training is for the finishing speed in the 5k races. None of this is for track.
Help! I have some questions regarding cross training? I'm a high school runner and the Track season is quickly approaching! I only have like 2 months left and need to really step up my training now. I will be doing many events, but right now am focusing on my 1600m. I want to build my endurance (I already have great endurance, but want to strengthen it further), strength (really in need of this) and Lactate Threshold. What are some different swimming workouts I can do for each of these different thigns? Thank you very much, I appreciate anything you have to offer. I should include this stuff: I'm 6'2'' 139lbs Caucasian I've been running for two years I can run three miles it about 17:30 One mile in 4:50's MAYBE (I haven't done it in a while) but at least 5:05 Have very little swimming experience. I mean I can swim just fine, but I'm not conditioned to it I am not strong at all, and need to work on that. Thanks.
Swimmers, do you ever run as a way to build up endurance in the pool? Is running an effective cross training workout for competitive swimmers, or do you tend to forgo cardio in favor of weights when training on dry land?
i need cross country workouts? i am going to be a junior and i want to train for cross country starting now since i a now in summer but i need workouts to do it or strategies can anybody help me :)
summer training cross country? this summer i really want to get in shape and become a better runner. i currently run a 6:10mile in track and in the fall i am doing cross country. i am also playing field hockey. we have field hockey conditioning for 4hrs every day where we do running/agility stuff for one hour, play indoor hockey, weight train, and do a video workout. i want to do xc too but conditioning is the same time :( should i run by myself in the evenings?? i am afraid of overtraining and actually hurting my times. i cant really run outside during the day from 12-5 because it is super hot and sunny. i was also gonna do yoga and swimming for cross training. any suggestions on how to improve my xc times w/o overtraining? thanks!
Summer Cross Country Training? Track season is almost over and im getting ready to train for Cross Country over the summer. Should I take a couple days off before i start training? Last season my Junior year my PR for a 5k was 17:28 and im wanting to run low 17s or even 16s can anyone hep me start off my training and give me some workouts? THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!
Are precor ellipticals w/ the moving handlebars better for you or are ones with the crossramp motion better? We are buying a precor elliptical. Do you get a better total-body (cross-training) workout from one with the cross-ramp motion (the ramps are adjustable to target different muscle groups) or from one with a fixed-ramp incline but with the synchronized handle bars that move your arms? Please let me know ASAP as we are buying today! Thanks.
Summer Cross Country Training Programs? This is high school we are talking here. I know it is just starting track season, but I do not run track. I am just starting to work on summer cross country training regimens. I am thinking that 1 day we have a long run of around 10 miles. Another day of about 5 miles of hills or more with hill repeats. One day off preferably. I am considering 1 or 2 workouts per week- nothing too hard but still not easy. And either 1 or 2 building base days. From your experiences, could you please tell me what you think of this summer regimen? If you would change it, what would you change it to? And also what would some good workouts be for our Division 3 team to get a good workout and still be improving? Thanks for you help and advice. Based on last season- our coach doesn't agree with summer workouts. I can see this as cross country is a somewhat long season and not wanting us to get burnt out. He really wanted the long run at about 6-7 miles. But I am wanting to up all of these because we have a state contending team.
cross country with speed/track workouts? I am an 800m runner who is building my base mileage by training with the cross-country team. While I am doing XC should I also be going to the track and doing speed workouts or running on high incline on my treadmill for hill workouts? I ran a 2:16 last year as an 8th grader and I want to get as low as possible this track season. What other workouts should I be doing from now until track season starts in April that will let me achieve my maximum potential in the 800m
Cross Country training? I've never done Cross Country before, and to be honest, I'm scared shitless. I'm one of the best runners on the track team (freshie), but all I do is the 100 and 200 sprint. And that's all I can ever do. I die at most of my workouts. I can barely jog two laps around the track. Which is... PATHETIC. That's why I want to do Cross Country.. To get in better shape so I can do better at my sprints. A FEW THINGS I'M WORRIED ABOUT... 1.) I just don't have the body for it 2.) I'll loose my "fast-switch" in sprinting How should I train, we start practice in April and I'd like to start training in about 2 weeks when track is over on my own. are these fears real? Is it just a bad idea?
Cross Country Summer Training out of the country? I plan run cross country for my inter-college team but I'm not in very good shape. I ran in high school and my PR for a 5K was around 25 minutes but I know that I am capable of breaking 22 minutes this year. I only have 1 week left at home this summer to train and then I will be traveling not to any place I can run. I have a jumprope and can do jumprope 30 minute cardio workouts whenever possible but that will be rare. Then I'm home for one more week to train. In those 2 weeks - 1 now and 1 later after I am back from my trip, what can I do to build endurance and get faster? Should I just repeat a 4-5 mile run daily and try to get faster each day? Or should I do speed workouts? Whats the best way to improve considering I have very little time. I don't want to be slower than the freshmen when school starts. I want to be one of the best runners on the team. I know I can do it. Any training help? I've been doing runs at 10 minute mile pace.. but thats not pushing myself.
Cross Counry Summer Training Tips!!? I've never been in shape for Cross Country. This is my 2nd year and it's my favorite sport. My time last year only only 19.06 which is not that great. I want to be running in the 16's low 17's by the end of this season. IT doesn't start for a few months so I need to know the best workouts that will help. ME and my friend have been running to get in shape, but now I thin we're ready for some real training. We've ran about 5 miles a day 2 weeks in a row except sundays. Do you think I can do my goal time this year? And does pop/candy really affect running that much?
Training trouble? Hi. I am preparing for the next season in both cross country and football. I have to do my distance workouts over summer while still preparing for football. I was wondering if I can add weight training, plyometrics, and speed training to my schedule? I really want to gain the benefits of all workouts. Can you please tell me how to structure my workout? Jim Thorpe, one of the greatest athlete of all time, was good at about every sport. My training schedule looks like this: Monday: Cross training in the morning Weightlifting in the evening Tuesday: Sprint/Speed Training in the morning Plyometrics following workout Endurance training (Track intervals) in the evening Wednesday: Same as Mon. Thursday: Same as Tuesday except Tempo Run instead of track intervals Friday: Same as Mon. Saturday: Same as Tuesday, but no sprint/speed training or plyometrics. Also, long run will performed instead of tempo or track intervals. Sunday: Rest. What do you think of this training program? Thanks
Help with workout plan? Need your help. I need more structure in my workout routine. I am getting into running and I want to run 8 miles per week. It gets my heart rate up (170), so it's a high intensity workout. So I would need some LI cross-training workouts too. I play badminton once a week and sometimes racquetball . Oh, and I LOVE going to the track and doing short all-out sprints. :D My workouts are too spontaneous. I basically do what I feel like doing on a given day. [I am really bad with weights] This is what I have done last few days. 50 min HI cardio (stairmaster, elliptical) Walk, 4mi (2mi/h) Badminton, 30 min Walk 4mi, (2mi/h) Tennis (30min), 100m sprints (6 laps) Cardio (30 min - xtrain) Rest Rest Sprints on the track, 2mi Badminton (30min), stretching Racquetball (30min), jog 1mi Jogging, 3mi Racquetball (30 min), bike (8 min), stretching Rest Jogging, 2 mi Jogging, 2mi + Walking, 4mi Could you help me design a workout plan? [Goals: improve cardio fitness; integrate running; lose weight]
Summer Training Cross-Country? I'm a decent runner. Deffiantly not bad. I just got done with Track season and I actually want to be running low 17's this year. I know I can do it, I just need to make sure i'm in shape by Season. What's the best workout for 6 days a week 1 day rest. And should I lift weights or just run and do body workouts like pushups, situps, pullups, etc.
What's the best Elliptical Cross Training machine brand? My gym only has Technogym brand equipment. I was wondering if there are any better brands out there; comparison of noise level, smooth workout, displays adequate information on LCD screens, low electrical consumption, no strain on one particular part of body, etc... I have a problem... The good brands listed aren't sold in Singapore...
Questions about cross-country? I did middle school cross country for three years, and the distance was either three-quarters of a mile or a mile. This year, I'm doing high school cross country for the first time. We run a 5k, which I believe is a little over three miles. I also ran the mile in track this year. What kind of times should I expect to get? I'm a 16 year old female. Still in shape from running the mile in track...but haven't run cross county in a few years. Also, does anyone have an adaptable training workout schedule for cross country? I have a little over a month before practice starts, and I want to have a reasonably good time by then. anybody?
Summer Cross Country training help? Im a Junior in high school and this summer my goal is to run a 5k in low 17s or 16s. I need help with what kind of workouts and strength workouts I can do this summer to reach my goal. Can someone please give me alot of advice or some good websites i can go to. THANKS
Can I perform speed training and endurance training on the same day? I have my own workout that I am starting tomorrow. What do think of this: Monday: Cross training in the morning Weightlifting in the evening Tuesday: Sprint/Speed Training in the morning Plyometrics following workout Endurance training (Track intervals) Wednesday: Same as Mon. Thursday: Same as Tuesday except Tempo Run instead of track intervals Friday: Same as Mon. Saturday: Same as Tuesday, but no sprint/speed training or plyometrics. Also, long run will performed instead of tempo or track intervals. Sunday: Rest. What do you think of this workout? Should I rearrange some things? This workout is going to be performed over summer. Do you believe it will work? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
I live in South Florida and want to train for cross-country skiing . What are some good exercise routines ? I already have a good weight lifting routine and spin 4 times a week. Looking to add sport specific workout to my routine.
HOW DO i GET THiS BODY...!? (Q. iNCLUDiNG PiCS)? This is a photo of me: http://pages.matmice.com/home/yahooanswerspics And this is a photo of my favourite celeb (its the photo that best showed her body shape etc)... http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/entertainment/2007-07/03/xin_270704031452151153449.jpg I LOVE that she's still got a real body in Hollywood rather than being a stick thin 0. I know she's a US4/6 (she said it in an interview). Im a US size 7/8. But Katie is heaps taller than me, she's about 170cm and I'm about 162cm. Can anyone tell me how I can achieve a toned and sculpted body like hers but still have that womanly shape? I dont want to become a total stick insect. I do a 25 minute butt and thigh blast cross training workout dvd, its by the hollywood trainer jenette jenkins (it helps to build lean muscle mass). And Im picking up my exercise bike next week and will be doing at least 30 minutes on it everyday as well as the workout. Would that help? Any other advice? Thanks <3
working out? I had a pretty bad day... I worked 9-3. Im trying to lose weight except I ate: -3 weet bix with milk -apricot bits in cocnut like 12 pieces -two tacos with meat and cheese and a glass of milk -a large apple, pineapple and orange juice -and a bowl of potato chips -oh and also drank water! I feel like it was a really crapp eating day overall because I complete binged out and crap and ate over 2000calories and I havent done that in over a month! So, I decided I'd do a 20minute cross training workout to make up for it. So I just finished it now and now I feel sick (sick in the stomach... like kind of a reflux sensation but its inside my tummy) and a little dizzy. Can anyone tell me why this is? I've done this workout plenty of times before and this has never happened... Thanks.

How will bicycling help cross country running? I am a cross country runner in high school. I am planning my summer workout which includes running 30+ miles a week and weight training 2-4 days a week. I am thinking about adding bicycling and was wondering how much it would actually benefit my running and in what ways.
Can I perform weightlifting on easy days? I have a workout program that has two cross training days. Can I perform weightlifting in the evening of these days? Usually cross training is performed in the morning. Will it not take away the benefits of recovery? I am training for a 5k and speed such as the 100m dash. Can I also perform speed training in the morning on the days that I have 5k training which is in the evening? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
what is the best workout to train/and pracitice for crosscountry? i need good workout tips to train for my cross-country season and how to loosewieght and stay in shape till the season starts and all through it! please help! any advice ? tips ? secrets? ..and if you have any mean comments please keep them to your self thanks.
what workouts would be effective for the lower abs (moderate level to vigorous)? im just training for cross country and i need just a little bit of fat to get off my stomach that just wont leave with running, hopefully ab workouts wll work.
Jeff Galloway's "Marathon: You Can Do It" - Did it work for you? I have run seven marathons but developed a long lasting injury in my achilles tendon as well as severe recurrent plantar facitis. I have been told that Galloway's method should allow me to resume marathoning but I am skeptical. Does running easy only 3 or 4 days a week really work? Do the weekly workouts provide enough base training to handle the long runs? Do walking breaks help? What kind of cross training did you do? Any stories from your personal experience with this training method would be appreciated. Thanks.
Best way to cross-train a friend? I'm in very good physical shape and a friend who is not in very good shape has asked me to help him get back in shape. I know he can't handle the workouts and aerobic activity I currently do so what are the best methods, excercises, programs, sports, etc. to help him achieve his goals and at the same time not be a total bore to me?
What is a good rowing ergometer (erg) time? How do you stop the clock? I've been using the Concept2 machine for two months now. Yesterday I did 1000m in 3:37. I had to adjust my foot strap because my foot came loose a couple times so that probably cost me a few seconds. I think my form is good because I try to use my legs and keep my back straight. I'm just training by myself three to four days a week for 20-30 minutes and making up my own workouts. I'm 5'11.5" tall, 166 pounds but I'm just doing this as cross-training for running. At what time can you say you're decent on the erg? My endurance isn't that good and I've only gotten 7:3x for 2000m. Would under 6:50 be a good time for my height? My plan is to try to get comfortable doing 500m under 1:40 and 1000m under 3:20 and then try for a good 2000m time. Is there a way to pause the clock when you have to adjust yourself? Have any workouts or tips?
I would like to be able to run cross country for school next year? At the moment, I'm not good enough to try for the team. I am going to train by myself, so that next year I'll be good enough. How should I go about training? What should my workout look like every day? What are some good times to strive to achieve? Any other tips?
What would a good 5k time be for a Freshman Cross Country runner? My personal record is 19:21 and I know that there is a lot of room for improvement in between now and the start of the season. (sometime in August) Also, what would a good workout plan be to train for the season?
What is a good athletic shoe that can also be worn with a business suit? I'm a fitness trainer and I need to look professional, but also be able to lead a workout for my clients. I hate the look of traditional running shoes with suits. Is there any other athletic shoe/cross training shoe that might pass for a regular shoe with a streamlined fit?
What to expect for Cross Country this year? I plan on joining the cross country running team for my highschool this year. And i want to know what to expect. Like on average, how many miles do you run during practice, during competitions, just all over? And is it really as hard as it seems? I'm actually in pretty good shape, and I have some endurance. I'm going to train more during the summer though. And another question, what exactly do you do in competitions? Like race against other schools or what? And is it a good workout? That will keep me in shape, and shed some pounds? Thanks guys!! [:
Summer Training.? After a mediocre track season in which I only have PR'd once, I want to be ready for cross country season and prove to my coach that I really want to be in this sport and deserve to be the top runner. After track ends Im taking two weeks off from running then im starting my training again. I'll be running about 6 miles a day increasing the mileage through out the summer and also doing fartleks, tempo runs, stairs and speed workouts. I want to break 18 before the season starts. My question is Is this too much? I plan on cross training days that im sore or its really hot and ill be taking a day off a week. and the next is What kind of runners diets are there? I think nutriton is what held me back during track season. I started drinking more water and less soda and tried to cut out junk food but it wasnt enough. What can i do?
How can I be the fastest runner? I do cross country (which is coming up) and track. I want a workout plan that won't produce injuries and also will improve my speed, stride, and muscle. I also was wondering how much stretching would be good for each day? What should I eat? Should I cross train, and if so what days would work? Anything you know that can make me fast, would be appriciated. Also if anyone could provide a workout plan that can make me reach my goal of being the fastest would be nice.
How long should I work out at the age of 14? Hi I want to build myself up more so i went and bought some dumbels, a cross train and bike. So how long per week and how many hours should i workout for?

Workout for Runners? I am looking for a workout for cross training. I live in Boston, so the weather can be tough for running! I am still running outside at least 1 day a week and also, on Tuesdays I do a track work out with the running club I belong to. What would be a good 2 or 3 day workout at the gym? I have been running for almost 2 years, I have had one injury about a year ago - hip flexor. I am not training for anything specific, just keeping in shape for the spring races!!!! Thanks!!
volleyball (and cross country)? okay so first of all, volleyball tryouts start in august. i have some uhm bratty frends who play volleyball and i was talking to them about this and they don't seem to think that i will make it. im good at volleyball, but they play for "the best club team" so yeah. and of course the one friend was like "i m so excited for 8th grade volleyball, i cant wait to be the best on the team again." (which she wasnt ever, she just has such a high ego it makes me want to scream!!!) ahhhh ok sry anyways my question is, if i want to try out for volleyball, what are some things i can do to train? specific workouts and things, weight training, ANYTHING that will help me become an awesome player by the fallwould be awesome also, i might do cross country ( havent decided between vball and xc) but all my friends are STICKS and have no muscles at all but they are so small that they can run fast! i run about a 14:20 2mile and a 6:30-7:00 mile right now, but im not training. specific workouts for xc would be awesome! again, for both sports, things like what types of weight training, specific workouts, plans, etc. would help most! thanks so much
I want to lose weight , i cross train , but i want better results, which is the best exercise for weight loss Ive tried everthing for excerise. i want to no the best ultimate workout. I can't jog i have bad knees
Getting ready for Cross Country? i never done cross country before however i want to do it this fall to get in shape for track next spring. (i run the 800m in track). I have only ran one 5k before and i got a 23:02. I know thats not too good, but that was the first 5K i've ever done and i really want to drop that time. So i have all summer to train for cross country. Right now i have a 23:02 and I would LOVE to finish the season with a time in the 21 minute range. ((Im a girl)) What are some workouts I can do over the summer to help drop my time? Hills? Distances? Anything else?? Any help is very much apprectiated, THANKS!!! **
I need a set of running workouts that meet my criteria below.? This is for long distance cross country running... First, i have about 30-50 minutes to do this workout...shorter workouts are best schedule-wise. I cant hit hills so forget those. I have 1 month. I need it as effective as possible, and its for endurance not speed. I need a really good base before my fall season begins. I'm in decent shape. I run 5 miles in 40 minutes currently. In terms of just a workout I don't want to go much faster than that. But 2 miles i'll do in 14 minutesish and 1 mile in 6 minutes. These are not race pace though so if you want me to go fast as race pace just say so. Feel free to include ab workouts and strenght training but keep in mind I dont have a gym and other stuff, so i need stuff i can do anywhere. K tks a lot.
Hard speed workout on the track yesterday, but no time to run today. Consequences? i did a hard speed workout on the track yesterday (8 x 1k at 10k pace, plus warm up and cool down), but today i didn't have time to do my workout at all (either an easy run or cross training was today's workout ... i'm following a plan for a 1/2 marathon). What does this mean for my legs and overall fitness? Does it matter? I don't think it's a big deal, I'm just curious. I know a lot about running, just not the physiological specifics :) thanks!
Help! I'm new to biking....? I'm a runner and I want to bike for cross training. What are some good workouts I can do, and what will they do for me? I would like to improve my strength and anaerobic capacity before endurance. I don't need to transition into biking, as I'm already in fantastic shape. (Unless there's something I don't know) Thanks. You should probably know this stuff- I'm a male, 17 years old, Caucasian, and though very thin in great cardiovascular shape. I'm 6'2'' and a 127 pounds. Yes, but I'm still in very good shape- so I don't need to 'work my way up' and start like a beginning athlete. And, yes, I'm aware of Lance Armstrong's marathon- he said it was harder than the Tour was at any point for him ever.
Track/ XC Off-Season Training? This year's track season just ended and I'm ready to start preparing for next year's Cross-Country season. My PR from this year's XC season for a 5k was 20:55. By the beginning of next season, I'm hoping to be in the low 20's (and be much faster by the end). Right now, I do a variety of workouts: long trail runs, paced street runs, track workouts, etc. What are your suggestions for training and improving my times during the summer? I`d really love a week-long workout plan with examples of different workouts for everyday of the week. (Ex. Mon: trail run, Tues: track, etc.) And, specific track workouts that will help me with pacing and speed (I wanna stay ready for the 800, 1600, and 3200 in track next year). Thanks :]
Summer XC Training Plan? Track season ended a couple of weeks ago and I decided to take this past week off. During the season we maxed out at about 35-40 miles per week and got down to like 25 by the end. I want to start running this week to begin preparing for cross country, but I also want to try some weight training and something different to mix it up a little. It also gets pretty hot and humid here and I would like to try to do some workouts where I could stay inside. (I have a gym membership) How much should I run/excercise from now until August when practice starts up?
Should I do Cross Country? What are the practices? Can I still lift weights and do Cross? I did track this year (couldn't do anything my freshman year on account of an injury), but everyone was telling me I should do Cross Country. I did the 400m and the 200m sprint this year in track. (I like the 400m more though, my coach told me I was a mid-distance 400-800m runner.) However, I would like to jump back on the weights this summer and add some muscle that I lost during track. Can I still lift weights AND do cross country? What are the practices like? Do you think a fast 1 mile a day would work (maybe start at a 7 minute mile and decrease gradually)? I also have a workout for my legs that involves jump training, so that would probably help too. So, basically, would it be OK (and still get good results) if I lifted weights AND did cross? Thanks.
Cross Country Season, Ways to Improve? So Cross Country season just started at my school, we have meets every Tuesday. Today being Tuesday, I ran today, Im unsure of my time, but I know it wasnt very good. Since I have a week to prepare for the next meet, I'd just like some suggestions as far as things I can do during the week(end) in order to be in tip-top shape for the following Tuesday. What Im trying so far: -Interval Training -Walking to and from school -Only drinking water, and plenty of it -Every morning except for (sat-mon) im going to swim in the morning for an hour or so. Directly following this, school, more specifically Phys. Ed. I know some might say my workouts a little to much, but believe me, I can handle intensity. Other than that, Changes? Additions? Suggestions? THANKS. EDIT// Interval training on weekend. (Sat & Sun)

Any cross country people in here? i am 18, and in my final year in high school. have been running since 7th grade. my personal records are 3mile:17:00 2mile:10:46 1mile: 4:40. its cross country off season but my coach isnt training us yet. i made it to regionals last year but with the team. can some one give me a workout to do over the summer. i need to be a contender to make it to state this year its my last chance to make it. and i know i can.
My Boxing Training? Im training to become a boxer but before I go to the gym I want to be in great shape, right now i do 250 sit ups a day, 150 pushups, 60 curls and i run cross country anywhere from 9-12 miles a day. is that a good workout and is my endurance to excessive and would it hurt my training though i cant stop doing it, it makes gaining weight near impossible and mass only definition
can anyone tell me the most effective workout to imporve your mile time? im a freshman and well i know i am a good runner cause im the only freshman on varsity for cross country and well i this might seem a little bizarre, but i wanna try to break the world record for the mile im my senior year, i run a 5:42 now and i want to break 4:45 by the end of track season this year , i know thats possible if i work hard but after that, what is the best speed training workouts cause the world record is 3:43 and well im still a far cry from that even at 4:45, so can anyone help? running it is not the problem, i laugh at it, its a piece of cake when we ran it for the physical fitness test, i was the fastest in my class and the dude who cam in 2nd was over a minute behind me but my problem is the speed i could probably run like 15 miles on a nice cool day, but im not saying im gunna be flying, im perfect at pacing myself when we run the 400m all my 400's were within 1 second of the last and i didnt even have a watch on me to make sure i would make it perfectly, i just need more speed
Okay Cross Country runner turned slow? I am cross country runner and in 10 grade. I ran all of track season and after. Then I ran all summer and i went to mammoth for extra training for a week. By the end of the summer, I ran 569 miles I was okay runner with a 18-12 for the three miles. Now for some reasons, everytime i do a workout iget tired or i am sore. My ankles started to bug me alot. Am I just overwork, tired, injured, or is nothing?
A question specifically for yupchagee and quiksilver8676...? What, for you, does an average workout consist of? In other words, what makes up your workout? What percentage of basics do you do each workout as opposed to say, kata or working with weapons, makiwari, bagwork, shadowboxing or whatever makes up your workout? Also, while I am mostly interested in the martial arts aspect of the workout, do you run, lift weights or do any other cross-training during the week? Anyone else like to share what their average daily martial arts workouts consist of when they are alone? Thank you in advance. Serious answers only, please.
What should I do if I have weight training and a race on the same day? I am starting weight training for the first time since early summer, on Mon. I haven't done it in a while, so I will get sore after the workout on Mon morning. I have already bought all the food needed for the meal plan, so I have to start lifting on Mon. no matter what unless I want $150 worth of food to go to waste. On Wed. is our first cross country meet at 4:30. I have weight lifting on that same day. I have legs on Mon. and Arms and Chest on Wed. I did some squats last week to see if I will get soar and I did. I ended up not being able to run at my fullest. I feel better now, but I am afraid I will do horrible at the meet if I start again on Mon. My weight lifting program has to be in this order: lift rest lift rest lift rest rest. I was thinking about starting on Sun. and performing weight lifting again on Tues. and then again on Thurs. Any tips on how I should structure my program and not be sore for the meet? I would GREATLY appreciate any advice.

Anyone know any good workouts? I want to start training for track. I didn't run cross country though. I want something that I'll be able to stick with until the season starts. I run mid distance and I'm not a very good distance runner. I would really like to be able to run at least 2 miles in a respectable time. ( I'm a sophmore girl in high school) Thanks!
How do I get people to take me seriously? I am in Tae Kwon Do. I have been enduring hardcore training for about four months now to try and make it to Nationals. Nationals is the highest level of competition for my age (16 yrs. old.) Anyhow, we cross train with another instructor sometimes, and it's like he thinks I have never worked out before...He doesn't even think I train as hard as I do...I train seven days a week about three or four hours a day. Sometimes when we finish a really easy workout like running a few miles or something, he says, "I thought you were going to die after this workout," or "Man, your going to be hurting tomorrow..." The amount of cardio training I do is insane... It takes a lot to make me tired or my muscles to be sore the next day...I just don't understand why I'm not being taken seriously. I really am serious about making it to Nationals and I am trying my very best to train hard everyday. Of course, my own coach thinks that I will make it there, but why doesn't the coach that we cross train w/ do?
Help, I need a healthy eating plan to match my workouts.? So anyways I'm 16 and a vegan. I'm started really improving my times this year by over a minute, minute and a half for the mile and the two mile. I'm going to be running a lot this summer to get in shape for crosscountry and track (very vigorous training) and I also have to do a LOT of strength training to straighten my knees. I really need someone who has experience with this type of stuff to tell me a healthy eating plan and what supplements to take. I already eat extremely healthy like no junk food or pop or anything like that. I really need to know what to eat to up my energy levels so that I won't get injured. Please if you know a site or any place to find a sports nutritionist or something can you tell me. I really want to go to state for track and cross country and I'm not sure if I'll be able to if I can't figure something out. Thanks so much for your time.
Not enough training? Okay so i run every other day with my team and we do good workouts and all, and we go on bike ride, hikes, etc. but i also swim every day, biking to and from practice. I want to be on the varstiy cross coutnry team come this fall but i was wondering if i need to do some more running on the days my team doesn't run?
girls soccer training tips? Its my freshman year in high school and Im going to play on the soccer team. My school is a small private school so everyone makes the team, but only the good players get lots of playing time. I've played for two years so I'm experienced in the basics. Before each practice we run the cross country course at my school which is about 3 miles. I can barely run one mile. How can I run 3 miles without stopping in about 4 weeks? Any other tips/workouts are appreciated!!
Not quite sure what is happening...Can anyone offer any explanation and/or solution? I have been running for the past 5 years 4-5 times a week, 4-5 miles a day, and every now and again I will hit a physical wall where in which I can only run a mile or two for a period of time that could measure a couple or days to a couple of weeks. During these times I have to often stop after the firest 20 minutes into my workout and walk for a while and then try and finish my run. Or there are time where in which my body and legs are so tired that I have to cross training on the elliptical machine. I hydrate, rest, add protein to my diet, but to no immediate physical response. I am currently dealing with one of these periods and the last time I had a really good run was last Thursday. My last three outing including today was awful. Any suggestions as to what might be going on and how I can break through this malaise. Thanks Michelled612 and lestermount for your advice and encouraging words. Had a strong run this morning and feeling strong again. God speed and keep the road under you feet.
I need help making a workout schedule.? I using Fit TV which is a personal trainer for my weight training that increases in difficulty every 2 weeks. I also love to run, using a cross training machine, and elliptical. I go to the YMCA which is open Monday- Friday and Saturday (half-day). I like to have one day off. What should be my schedule? My weight training takes approximately 40 minutes and I usually do an hour of cardio. Please use this type of format: Monday: Tuesday: Wednesday: Thursday: Friday: Saturday: Sunday:
where can I watch either the Bar Method or NYC Ballet Workout free online? I really want to know more about these methods for an assignment about cross-training in dance forms, but I can't spend money to buy both dvds.
Cardio Interval training at the gym...What are the benefits? I worked out really hard today... Did a minute on the cross trainer on the lowest setting, and then set it to the highest and did it full blast, using all my energy for a minute, then back to really easy and slow. I've never sweated so much! Why is it such a good workout?
Can anyone tell me about Airforce Basic Training? I am 26 years old and have been a smoker for more years than I can count on my fingers and have not worked out since I took cardio-kickboxing 3 years ago, which I struggled on (it is pretty bad when grandma is still going and you have to stop) I am 5'6 and weigh 125 ponds (I am not over weight, but I am out of shape) I have stopped smoking a week ago(I have not cheated) and I powerwalked 1 mile for 3 days since(boy who new walking fast would give your legs a workout) I now have started jogging 1 mile(2nd day) and it takes me 11min and 33secs (not that great) I am not a runner, even when I ran cross country in high school my best time was 22 min and something for 2 miles. Nov 20th I leave for basic in TX and I am having second thoughts because you have to be able to run a 2 mile in under 20 min. not to mention the push-ups that may kill me too(they are not girl style either) Can someone give me advice on what to expect in basic, maybe some running advice or should I not go..lol?
Cross country? I'm in eighth grade right now and plan on running XC next year. i am starting to train now, running 1- 3 miles a day. What should my time me for a workout like that? Also does anyone have any other tips?
What kind of shoes do you run/walk/workout in? Brand name, and style if you have it! I've been a runner, have my favorites, trying to find something good to walk in or cross train. thanks!
