What is the best kind of "athletic" shoe for everyday walking and errands? I don't do formal exercise beyond walking. I spend my day chasing after my young children, run errands, and the like. I need a lightweight, comfortable shoe that comes in a narrow width (I wear a AA), offers adequate support and stability, and looks good with jeans. I'm only 30, so I want something that looks fairly young and hip. :-) I've looked at New Balance shoes but haven't a clue whether I need a cross-trainer, a walking shoe, or what. Help!

What are cross-training shoes used for? I mainly lift weights (3-4 days/wk) and run occasionally, so would cross-trainers work best for me rather than, for example, running shoes? I'm asking b/c I've had my eye on a nice pair of Nike cross-trainers. Thanks in advance!
Do I really need to get a shoe fitting? I'm not an athlete. I'm 16, and I want to get fit by running a few times a week. I also jump rope pretty regularly. For cross trainers, do I really need a shoe fitting to determine what kind is best for my gait, arch, etc? I've never had a problem with normal sneakers.

Should I buy running shoes and tennis shoes separately? Hi, I participate in two types of physical activities: - I run on the treatmill at the gym - I play tennis I also have flat feet. Would it be better for my feet to get a pair of running shoes and a pair of tennis, or can I go with one pair of shoes? (and which one, running, tennis or cross-trainers). Any particular company you recommend? (New Balance? Brooks?) When you answer, can you say what is your background with regards to this? Thanks.
Are running shoes necessary, or are they just one more item to buy? Are running shoes necessary, or are they just one more item to buy? I'm thinking of trying out for HS sports so I have been running one mile a day, but I hope to get up to three miles by the end of the summer. Currently I'm using New Balance cross trainers? Do I need running shoes? And after how many miles should I replace my shoes.
Flat feet, need shoes!? I'm actually in need of a cross trainer, and walking shoe. I use orthotics, but many shoes (especially summer) makes it hard. Crocs work great for my orthotics, but I can only wear the mary janes because the size on the regular ones doesn't work for my feet. However, my orthotics fit in them nicely (I have the heat molded hard plastic ones). I've joined a fitness bootcamp that does cardio with some weights...so I need a cross trainer. (Running shoes aren't made for cardio). And I need a walking shoe...just for mall walking and just being on the go. (I don't need any running shoes). Any suggestions? (need ladies shoes, btw) Not looking for an insert. Orthotics are solid plastic inserts...mine are shaped to my exact feet.

Running shoes, cross country shoes? I was looking at the Zoom Miller XC, the GHAC XCs and Nike Free trainer 7.0s (These are all nike). I was going to start running again and I was looking into various shoes. 1. I was going to get a pair of Megabounce + from adidas or Nike 360s for long distant running on concrete. (<10 miles) 2. I like the zoom millers because nike says: " a science of tread design that lends traction on grass snow mud and loose terrain. " These are cross country shoes so I thought they would be useful to have as multipurpose because of the tread on the bottom is rubber but not spikes - I wanted a shoe that would be less inclined to get saturated with dirt like typical running shoes with their cloth lininig; I also wanted a shoe I could play a few casual sports games in- (its a little funny showing up to a game with cleats when it was only going to be light). People say you can wear any shoe for whatever purpose; but I was trying to specialise the shoes I would to wear.
Best non spike sprint shoe? Hey I'm in track for the 100m, 200m, and long jump. I have a great pair of spikes, but I'm doing the Hershey state meet and in the Hershey meets you aren't allowed to use spikes. I've been using some cross trainers till now but I really need a pair of good normal running shoes anyway. So any suggestions on the best pair of non-spike sprinting shoe?
First time running a 10k: tips, info on shoes, recommendations?? I'm 18 and I'm going to run a 10k with my dad in the end of April/begining of May. Any tips or recommendations would be helpful, I'm a first time runner (I ran track for a couple years, but have since gotten busy and out of shape) I've started training and eating stricter, and I have no doubts that I'll be ready for it, but any advice would be great. The biggest thing is I would like to know like what kinds/brands of shoes would be good, I have a pair of Adidas now, but I don't remember what kind they are I think they're just cross-trainers. Reviews? Shoes to buy/stay away from? And what about sports bras? I'm well endowed and need some good ones...Thanks!
Best shoe after achilles tendon rupture.? I should be out of the walking boot in a couple of weeks. What is the best shoe to wear to aid in better walking and better recovery? I was told new balance has great cross-trainers and also that sandals help strengthen the foot. What do you all think?
New Balance Cross-trainers causing blisters...HELP!? I bought them brand new 2 weeks ago after trying them on in the store. Then after the first time I use them for running, they rubbed blisters on my heel! I had not noticed before that my heel was ever-so-slightly slipping inside my shoe. The next size down was too small for my foot and the width is a "B". Is this normal for breaking in new shoes? Can I take them back to the store for an exchange? Is there another remedy I can use?
Flat feet....HELP....? What is the best cross-trainer and running shoe for someone with flat feet? I work out 5 to 6 times a week and it is getting to be difficult running and taking my weekly classes (kickboxing and boot camp).
