Hitting a wall during Cross Country Summer training..? I've been running for about two months for cross country training this summer. What creates a better fighter? A "complete" style or cross training? I'm interested in (most) people's opinions on this matter. Assuming that said complete style is actually good, I could see it having the advantage of training with synergy. That way, it's guaranteed that the practitioner's techniques wouldn't become compartmentalized, and flow naturally between eachother. On the other hand, cross training supplies more depth in each facet of combat that one trains in than -- say -- training in one style that encompasses multiple ranges of fighting. (Yes you can cross train and then practice everything together, but that's not what I'm asking; I already consider that to be most effective.) by the way, I'm noticing misconceptions about what cross training is. Cross training isn't just dabbling in techniques of various styles, it's actually training in multiple styles simultaneously. For instance, Boxing on Mon & Tues, BJJ on Wed &Thurs, and Wrestling on Fri & Sat. That's cross training. Cross training is not just randomly taking various classes once or twice and never coming back.

Anyone in the NYC area interested in cross-training this weekend? Through a website called bullshido different martial artists get together in local areas to arrange different sparring sessions under whatever rules the people agree on. It isn't very formal. if you want to go light contact you can find someone there who will go light contact, if you want to do standing only or full mma you can find someone there who will do that too. No egos, just a bunch of people who want to cross train with other styles and martial artists. If you show up you are considered a winner because you are a normal person willing to test your technique against different people and you are not all talk. It is this sunday (the 19th) at the fighthouse here is the info from the bullshido topic: sunday nov 19, 12noon-3pm. at fight house (www.fighthouse.com) mat fee seems to usually be $15/per person but if there are enough of us we should try to haggle down to $12 122 West 27th Street 2nd floor, New York, N. Y. 10001 (bet. 6 & 7 Ave.) TEL. (212)807-9202 here is the bullshido link for the topic: http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47377&page=5 Or you can message me with any questions. It went well. I guess there isn't anybody here on yahoo answers from nyc though.
Does it mean your hired when the people you had interview with, scheduled you for cross training? I went to a job interview last October 12, It was a Doctor's office. I had an interview with the Doctor that lasted for about 30 minutes, after a few more minutes the Doctor called her office manager for a second interview. After chatting with both of them, they looked at each other and "nod" at each other and said "yes." The office manager gave me a tour of the office and scheduled me for a "cross train" for Friday the 19. We shook hands then say goodbye. Everything went by so fast that I'm not even sure if I'm hired. The doctor and the manager ask me how much I want to get paid. I told them it's negotiable and I am more after the experience. I am scheduled on OCt 19 for cross train from 9:30- 11:30. I'm still employed with my other job and my resignation won't be effective for another 2 weeks. So silly of me not to ask questions when I was there. I got so overwhelmed by the good reaction they had with my interview that when I was scheduled for "cross train" I shook the office manager's hand, I said good-bye and left.
cross country training? I really want to get into running, and maybe join the cross country team, but I have no Idea where to start. Should I start running only a little at first and then gradually increase? Tell the specific amount please. Also, what should I be eating when I'm cross country training? I also have to learn how to run ALOT by August(when tryouts are), so do you think this is a possible goal for me to accomplish? Thanks

Summer Cross Country Training Programs? This is high school we are talking here. I know it is just starting track season, but I do not run track. I am just starting to work on summer cross country training regimens. I am thinking that 1 day we have a long run of around 10 miles. Another day of about 5 miles of hills or more with hill repeats. One day off preferably. I am considering 1 or 2 workouts per week- nothing too hard but still not easy. And either 1 or 2 building base days. From your experiences, could you please tell me what you think of this summer regimen? If you would change it, what would you change it to? And also what would some good workouts be for our Division 3 team to get a good workout and still be improving? Thanks for you help and advice. Based on last season- our coach doesn't agree with summer workouts. I can see this as cross country is a somewhat long season and not wanting us to get burnt out. He really wanted the long run at about 6-7 miles. But I am wanting to up all of these because we have a state contending team.
Track and Field Training Vs. Cross Country Training.? I am trying to find something to do (sports) at school. I'm going to 10th grade next year and I want to become involved. I was thinking that over the summer I could begin training myself for cross country and track season next school year. I've never played sports or ran track before. I know I won't be that good, but i want to try anyway. I think I run fast if you take my size into consideration ( I'm like 5'3 and like 130). So i figured if i lost some pounds and worked on my speed and endurance i could do okay. How can I train? Or would it be a bad idea to start something this late? * I really want to try*
A late start for cross country summer training program? I just found out today that a cross country training program at my high school has been going on this summer for a month so far. I knew nothing about it. (Maybe because I'm going to be a freshman.) I've tried to run on my own, but all I have been able to reach is a bit over a mile. They are already running 4 miles at the school. There is still one month of training left. Do you think I should try to go to practice (there is one tomorrow)? How much should I try to run if I do go? Last year I was probably the second or third fastest runner on my team. The top runner has left, leaving me as probably the 2nd or 3rd fastest freshman.
How is this idea for cross country training? I'm a cross country runner, and this is an idea I have for training, tell me what you think of it. Ok, well to start off the focus of my training is to improve my muscular, not cardiovascular, endurance. I have absolutely fantastic cardiovascular endurance, and the only thing preventing me from running faster times is that my muscles just get wasted after a while and I can't keep the pace of my first half. Again, its not cardiovascular, as I can hold my breath, have a conversation, all of it and during a race. And still get great times. So, to improve my musuclar endurance, my idea is to , staring today, do stairs at absolute max, 5, up and down, at a time (its about a hundred steps up). Then do Stassi Squats, and repeat until I am absolutely beyond exhausted. I feel that if I can continue this for a few weeks, perhaps my muscles will be able to keep up with cardiovascular endurance, and I'll be able to run much faster. Any comments, advice, and the like would be appreciated. First person says that'll build cardiovascular, which is true, but won't going up stairs also build muscular endurance? What can I do to as quickly as possible strengthen that?
I need to know if cross country training is helping me for sprinting? I am primarily a baseball player (outfield), but i have started doing cross country in the fall. I need to know if all this long distance training will help me for doing sprints during tryouts and for games...running down batted balls, stealing bases, running bases etc... if this isnt going to help me for baseball i want to do something in the winter that will help me prepare for baseball.
Will cross training hurt my Triathlon training? I spent this past summer training for my first Triathlon. I completed it in September. However, my level of aerobic/long distance training has fallen of significantly during the winter. I've been coaching wrestling, and have spent a lot of time wrestling with High School kids. I know that I am increasing my anearobic training significantly. I've also been doing a lot of stairs and some strength training. I still run, bike, and swim...but, very minimal compared with the full training schedule I had during the summer. Should I be working harder on the Tri-sports over the winter? Am I setting myself back this winter?
Can someone give me a good cross country training program?? I am just starting high school in the fall and I want to try out for the varsity cross country team. I need to be able to run a 5k I guess easily by August 13. I try to run at least 3-4 times a week but in the past I have only run a mile at a time. I also live on a 75 acre farm, so I can do hills. If someon could give me a great training program, I would really appreciate it. Please i need a good training program and im just looking for a little help. And jobees, ur answer isn't what im looking for lol. To david, nice answer. I'll try it out. To david, nice answer. I'll try it out.

becoming a mechanic after the air force or cross-training into ? I really don't have experience with repairing cars or any mechanic work, but I love mechanical things and I do have some experience repairing my own vehicle and I am very good with my hands. I can basically take anything apart and put it back together.I have a good memory. the thing is I don't know where to start. I want to join the air force and get a degree in there and learn a lot about life, get free education, but I am joining with a minimal asvab score that makes me qualified to join. I am 20 and I only qualify for admin jobs. Is getting a admin degree and going to school after 4 years in the service a good route and start learning how to be a mechanic at age 24. I just have this thought in my head that mechanics begin at an early age such as 18-20 and I feel like 24 is late to start that type of training in Aviation or auto mechanic work. I should have spent time training when I was younger but I got caught up in trouble and having too much fun.now I am looking forward. ?
What's the best way to break in new cross training shoes? I bought a pair of Nike cross trainers online and they just came in today. I figured it wouldn't be smart for me to wear them right away to exercise class tonight, so what would be the best way to break them in?

Thanks for your help.
INdulging Sweets During Cross Country Prep Training? I am currently training for cross country. I run 30 minutes casually in the morning (6 AM), at around 6 PM I have a hard run (tempo, fartlecks, hill repeats, tapering, intervals-depends on the day). Anyway, my dad is trying to keep me off sweets, especially since next year is my junior year of cross country and I've been recieving letters from colleges to run on their cross country team. Is it really reasonable not to indulge in any sweets preparing for cross country. I do not see how damaging it could be to indulge in a few french fries or some ice cream. Yesterday I grabbed for a bite of cake and my dad scolded me!
